So I contacted the Auction site and asked why the 1602 Pierce was currently not running…was the engine seized?…has it just not been started in a while?…are there any known mechanical issues?…I closed with “Any information you could provide would be most appreciated.”

This was their response, in their own words…”They are not getting running at this time.”

    Wow…what an answer…

What would be a good estimate on the blue 36 that is not running?…I may go out to that action to take a look…

I know the place, it is about an hour’s drive from me…this is the same place that I fell in love with my first Pierce-Arrow, it was the car used as Al Capone’s car in the TV series remake “The Untouchables” in 93-94. It was a big black Pierce-Arrow Limousine with a divider window (please forgive me, I cannot remember the exact year, 1929 or 31) I wanted that car bad, wife said no, it got sold.

This business used to lease vintage cars for use movies, then sell them when they were through with filming…they used to be called Antique Auto, now they are USA Trailer sales…or something like that.

John: I am very glad to hear the website will be a priority topic at the winter meet.

Please understand that I view this website as a great accomplishment for what was available 20 years ago, it has served it’s purpose in that time.

But times are changing faster than some us are willing to accept. If the PAS is serious about recruiting newer, younger members into the fold, then we must do so with a modern, fully functioning website, with all the bells and whistles attached.

Yes, this is an amazing website, and I do not wish to see it come down either, but if we can take this website and incorporate it’s features into the vision of the new website, then we can be proud of what can be accomplished with it.

If the Pierce-Arrow Society wants to stay ahead of the game, then we need to set an example of what the other car clubs out there should be following…a modern website that can encompass both the old, and new visions, of yesterday and today.

I am patiently awaiting the outcome, but every once in a while I feel we need to “rally the troops again”” to get this done.

No offense is meant to anyone in my rants…

Marc Raltson was the reason I bought my first Pierce-Arrow.

The story is in the feature articles section under Miss Helen.

After I purchased the car he sent me an autographed copy of his book, September 1998. Still have it, still use it.

Most likely someone offered the seller what he was asking for in his in reserve price and the seller pulled the auction.

Some Ebay auctions offer a best offer option on the site, perhaps someone made an offer he couldn’t refuse!…

Marc Ralston’s book on Pierce-Arrow is a good book on the history of the company…

Another publication was Automobile Quarterly fourth quarter 1990 vol 28 number 4

    Gentlemen:

At the risk of bringing down the torch bearing, pitchfork carrying, villagers upon myself, I feel it is time to say what needs to be said (again)

At the mini meet last year in March, I voiced my opinion that it is time the Pierce-Arrow Society get off its butt and get into the 21st century…

This website is completely outdated, and needs a complete rebuild..period.

It is time for the members of the PAS board to stop putting off the fact that we need a new, modern, website that we can post links to without manipulating them to fit this outdated technology. We need a new forum, possibly one that will allow us a group chat room, where we can converse with whoever is online at the time. We need a new forum that will allow us to post any size pictures, or videos, and as many as needs be, to explain whatever procedure is being asked upon at the time. We need to get this done.

I know most of you will scoff at this idea, because you are complacent with what we have now, and you feel there is no need to change anything. Add to this the fact that you are scared to try new things, and have to get used to a whole new set up again does not help matters much. But it’s time to embrace the future and, while the future can be scary, it can also be an eye opener.

When I joined the PAS in 1999 this is the website I joined on. It is outdated, and simply exchanging out a few photos here and there does not mean it has been “updated” in any way. The technology that exists today simply cannot be downloaded into this dinosaur of a website. We need to start from scratch and build a new one. The new, modern website of the Pierce-Arrow Foundation Museum is a good role model to start with.

The Pierce-Arrow Motor car company died as result of the fact that it’s management and board would simply not change with the times, even when the writing was clearly on the wall…have the board members of the Pierce-Arrow Society adopted that same policy towards it’s own website?…

“If you build it, he will come.”
