Yes, it has a small cover…….photo to follow.
I have never seen or heard of anything on the custom stuff.
Be careful with paper bags…..the fibers could break loose and plug the lifters……..I would source correct gasket material, and be sure nothing is blocking the oil passages. Do NOT use any sealer on the gaskets for the lifters…..install it dry.
Robes ran from 35-125 dollars, depending on year, type, material, style, and initials. Add in pillows and foot hassocks and you could spend a bundle.
It’s a simple and elegant design…………and it works great………
Bill…….FYI……..every year Pierce made changes to the internal parts of the transmissions…….thus the gears are not interchangeable across the board. Pierce was also famous for shipping experimental gear designs out into the field to see how they held up. I ended up with one of these experimental units……..it looked like nothing I had ever seen as far as gear design. It functioned well……….but when you open up a Pierce transmission all rules go out the window as far as parts replacement. I have made fears in the past, but today single gears can easily cost two grand…….and a good used transmission can usually be had for half of that or less.
Looks like you may have pitting on gears in the trans. The gears are only case hardened and will tear themselves up if they are pitted. Usually the input shaft is the biggest issue…….looks like you unit sat exposed outside, and it may be worth the effort to locate another unit.
There ate three different casting numbers on all the brackets from 29-38 8 & 12. And they all seem to interchange without any issue. John and I have gone over them several times, never figured out why the different numbers or the extra holes. Unless the extra holes fit a Stude.
Poster looks great.
Interesting that the meet was 27 years ago……….I’m getting old! And also, does Craig ever throw anything away? Looking forward to going back there again. Ed
It’s a nice car that use to belong to another PAS member before Vin bought it. When I drove it back then it was very well sorted. A very nice open Pierce for a very reasonable price.
Decent reproductions were made about fifteen years ago……….they made quite a few, but I can’t remember what color they were. Original robes run from 500-2000 depending on color, condition, style, and year.
I am happy to field questions for anyone on trailers and trucks, not everyone needs a 21K rated trailer……..but 16 inch 8 lug wheels with the 12 inch drums and 7K magnets are a must. If you order a trailer new, its not very expensive to upgrade it from the factory. Height, length, wheel boxes, too cabinets, reinforced door for a Pierce are all considerations……….hauling a V-12….you need to pay attention to lots of other things.
1925 Trico
The spring clip that goes on the tower looks in good condition, often they are broken or repaired. I usually replace the springs under the balls………the get slack after 80 years.
Looking forward to your photos……
It’s been ten years since I took one apart. The entire transmission is very basic, and not difficult to assemble but after 5 years, without photos, it may take a few attempts to get it back together. The shafts have to be installed in a certain order, and requires a little bit of fussing around. All the bearings were available as of five years ago. Most importantly is to be sure nothing was lost in the way of shims, if there were any in it……..best of luck. Ed
Its a great car……..someone is going to be happy to have it.
Call Cislak, he had a set of trim at Hershey in the past year or two.
Yes, I bought mine out of England. They work great, and are much brighter. That was four years ago, and I don’t remember what website I purchased them from.
