Out for a drive today……
I don’t know the car, and am not that familiar with very early Pierce cars, that being said, today’s buyers are much more sophisticated and educated when it comes to buying cars. The cost and aggravation of finishing a car today is staggering……IF you can find someone competent to do the work…..a big IF. There are plenty of documented cars, restored and tour proven, available for sale that are turn key drivers. The ONLY way to sell basket cases, project cars, rebodied projects,etc……..is on price. If you gave someone the car that is the subject of this thread for free, they would still need 150k to make it look, run, and drive decent………..and two years to get it done. Will the car ever be finished? Most likely not…….unless a retired craftsman wants a project to keep himself occupied.
That car was sold new in Springfield Mass, and has only had two owners that I am aware of…………
I have known this car since the 80’s.
I thought you just had to be crazy to own a Pierce Arrow, now it seems you have to be “high””!”
More photos would be helpful. Looks like a nice car. Cars from 1921-1924 are all rather similar, and only a few production changes like front brakes make them different. More photos of the car would be helpful to properly identify it. They are nice cars, but complicated and expensive to work on. Used parts sometime are available. There is almost nothing available for new part except gaskets.
Bill….early cars need more attention to what you are using than the later stuff. Most of the people active here are post 1920 collectors. I would talk to someone in HCCA or someone who is very active in restoring and servicing earlier cars. If you call Lucas Oil help line, I am told they are very helpful.
Thats the best “new”” Model A trailer I have seen in 30 years.”
Cislak has valves in stock, he made springs for years but they are gone now, he should have good used springs. His valves come with new guides.
John and I will be there, not vending for the first time since the 80’s.
Please remember my jacks and handles! ðŸ‘
Cislak had one last year at Hershey. Not sure if he still has it. Give him a ring.
Nobody would buy they ugly green pattern upholstery today…………I spent a long time trying to find something close. Ten years ago…..maybe 15. Struck out. I like what I ended up with.
Dave was a great guy and a unique individual………and he always had a smile. I shall miss him.
I never found anything close. I did mine in a 40’s pattern, including the flooring. I can smell the old musty cushion just by looking at the photo. I replaced mine with latex for a better and more comfortable feel and function.
They are all the same fabric, A,B,& C. A strange light green pattern. I don’t have a photo on my hard drive, but the flooring and cushions on the more than half dozen original trailers I have seen and owned were all the same.
Paul is a great guy. Cislak had some parts for these a few years ago, not sure if he sold them. They work great, but are very complicated to make work. If you rebuild yours, buy a vacuum pump so you can work on it on the bench. I did mine years ago running the car with a long hose on it to the bench…….wasn’t a good idea. Started and stopped the car 500 times.
Bob, I will get a can at the Hershey tent. Thanks for the project!
Vacuum thingy…………Wow, my one of my Pierce Arrow mentors knows the technical name of a firewall part. I have no idea of its correct nomenclature. I have always used neatsfoot oil. Do you have any idea how hard it is to catch a neat and get it to give you oil………?
Deleted……maybe the original poster is bidding? Yes, the car was on eBay.
I spoke to Cislak a few days ago, he plans on making up reproduction lever assembly’s. They are a difficult thing to make correctly. Give him a call. The more orders he gets, the sooner he will do the project. He needs a set for his own car.
