Next there is a thrust like piece that need to be removed. The flange is towards the rear of the car. Also note the three springs around the friction disc.

By the way, tap the nut in the other direction to loosen and take out the cotter pin first.

You should now be looking at the brake clutch assembly.

There are a pair of the Woodlites, like in Peter’s photo, on eBay.

Bare headed archers started in 31. A 32 archer should be a 2 piece.( archer bolts to the base) and the base should be about 5 3/4″ in diameter, if I am correct. My 33 is a one piece.

Base of archer should say Schnell.

I would google Pierce arrow 1932 archer and look at the images and check the dimensions.

The question has come up as to whether or not anyone else needs ether of these brackets. Thinking about having some cast and wanted to see how much interest there was.

    Thanks

According to the Book William Howard Taft and the First Motoring Presidency, 1909-1913, by Michael L. Bromley:

The deal to sell the two Pierces to the Taft White House, was put together by Col. Charles Clifton, Pierce’s Treasurer.

The choice was left up to Mrs. Taft and somewhere after Feb 16,1909, Clifton offered a “48 H.P. Limousine for $2,500.” Also, Mrs. Taft “needed the formality of a limousine as well as the show of a landaulet.

Clifton would meet that extravagance with a 36 H.P. landaulet to be delivered later (after the March 4th inauguration) for a slight $2,000. A summer, seven-passenger touring body that could be mounted on the 48 H.P.’s chassis was thrown in at $400.” Clifton also sent a “competent, company-trained chauffeur.”

So Taft basically got 3 bodies and 2 chassis for $4900. I wonder what the current Cadillac, “BEAST” cost and what kind of deal GM gave us taxpayers.

    Louis,

I can find references to ’37-’38 Pierces with 4160 distributors.

This looks like this is a new car delivery. The bike says Hollywood, plus something else.

Driver tows the car to the new owner and drives the bike back?

    Just my thoughts.

Is that a delivery cycle? Front fender says Hollywood something. Did the dealership deliver the car and the driver took the cycle back to the dealership?

    Here is Acme’s website

The chain is referred to as a silent chain. Acme Power Transmissions also have silent chain and may be an option.

They will probably need the dimension. I don’t know them, but they may be worth a call.

    Congratulations, Sam.

I really like what I would call your “Duke” blue, but I am prejudice. What is the correct name for the blue?

    Stunning is the correct word.

Can we get a ruling on the chauffeur?

That will fix the time period.

I saw where President Taft Ordered 2 Pierce Arrows in 1909 one being a landaulet. So maybe the license is a 1914?

They aren’t dressed for an Inauguration or Harding’s funeral which would have been in August 1923.

in reply to: SECOND FLORIDA REGION MYSTERY PHOTOGRAPH #396944

That is the front gate at the White House they just left.

My guess one is Charles Dawes, Vice President and Calvin Coolidge President. Coolidge on the passenger side and Dawes on the drivers side?

One could also be Woodrow Wilson.

Chauffer would be Francis H. Robinson

    Greg,

Pretty car. Based on the hood ornament, that car obviously can’t make up it’s mind as to whether it is a ’33 Pierce or a ’33 Packard.

Seriously, I have been torn between the 32 and 33 cars. I really like the ’32 dash better and I am a little partial to the lack of the cross bar on the ’33. I guess I will have to get one of each some day.

Since I can’t roll, much less drive mine, I will leave it up to your hands on experience as to the performance issues.
