Gene, I had a stainless exhaust system made for my Pierce by Kepich. They used to be in Florida but have moved to North Carolina. I believe they have patterns for lots of antiques. Their number is 336 492 5629. Since you are close by you are welcome to look at the quality.Tom

Since we are both in Atlanta I suspect we are using the same location. They have done media blasting for me on a Triumph and the current Mustang I am restoring. But no experience with the Fluidized Bed process. Tom Abbott

Greg, I don’t NEED a thing (except time to do all my projects)my Series 80 is running like a top. We got it out yesterday for the first time this winter (at least our definition of winter in Georgia which I am sure is quite different than your definition of winter) but may be interested in a spare artillary wheel and maybe the third member from the rear axle/differential. Let me know if they are available.

I believe the crankcase holds 9 quarts.

Might I suggest you come to the CCCA Grand Classic in Stone Mountain GA (Atlanta) on May 14-15. There will be several Pierce’s there.

in reply to: Trans. and axle oil viscosity #412081

I am changing the ring and pinion in my 1927 series 80 and started my gear oil search by contacting member George Teebay. He led me to NAPA also AND GL-4 140. At NAPA they have multiple high viscocity gear oils and I called the Tech-line on the containers and spoke with a “scientist”.

They laughingly said they hear it all the time from “old car folks” that they use GL-4 and NEVER GL-5. Apparently GL-5 used to be caustic to bronze and brass, both present in many old transmissions and differentials but said the additives they currently use are not as custic as they used to be. My research led me next to a family that has been making lubricants for locomotives for over 100 years and got somewhat the same story. To satisfy yourself go to NAPA, get the number and give them a call. I’d give you the number but my gallons are at the shop. They have multi-weight or numerous single weights. I chose 140 GL-4, exactly where George Teebay had me start. Tom Abbott

As always, thanks George. Looks like I have a 21 Series 32 or 1922-1925 Series 33 set of headlight lenses. Any history out there on the value, I am cleaning out car parts and either need to buy a car that uses these or sell them. I think the second option would be the safer option with my wife since I already have several cars waiting for my “next restoration”” plus I am in the middle of one right now. Tom Abbott”
