William, you picked up a beautiful automobile and a V12 to boot!

    Good luck sorting her out.

The experts here will have you happily motoring along in not time.

So…what about those of of that have genuine wood trim in various places and would like to restore that trim?

in reply to: Oils to be used #407079

I know all of this has been discussed at various times in many threads over the years but it would be extremely helpful to members, both new and old, if a comprehensive list was put together and posted in a format similar to the parts and services directory.

The knowledge on this board never ceases to amaze me.

My ’29 143 ED Limo is about 75 inches at its tallest point.

I was generous just eyeballing the tape measure so it could be just a tad shorter.

in reply to: Upgrading brakes? #406980

William, I was about to post that Chrysler had hydraulic brakes in 1924 when they transitioned from Maxwell.

They also had inner and outer brakes on the rear drums, I believe.

It has been awhile since I have seen the 1924 Chrysler roadster a cousin is restoring but from what I remember that is the brake setup.

I know that plaque has its rightful place on the Pierce Arrow Building but it sure would look great in the PAS museum where it would be cared for like it should be.

I don’t have any experience with a 2 wheel brake system on a Pierce but my ’29 stops just about as well as my ’64 Malibu with the stock 4 wheel drum brake system.

It stops amazing well for its size and age.

My front shoes will need to be relined soon and I know that it is critical to get the proper material on the shoes.

I know I will most likely end up shipping the shoes somewhere to have them done.

Not something I look forward to since I don’t like to have parts like that have the possibility to get ‘lost’ in shipping.

in reply to: adjustable fuel pressure regulator #406970

My ’29 has an electric pump just to prime the carb and then it runs on the stock fuel pump.

Even with the very hot weather here in So Cal I have never had an issue with vapor lock.

My guess would be if the cooling system is in good working order then vapor lock should not be too much of an issue unless you’re stuck in traffic in over 100* weather.

But then again, maybe the early 8 cylinder cars have less vapor lock issues than the later 8 cylinder cars do.

    in reply to: K & N Air Filter 1936 Eight #406956

I would use the K&N for everyday driving and use the stock filter for display and show purposes.

    in reply to: K & N Air Filter 1936 Eight #406952

I looked up the throat OD of the carb on my ’29 and browsed through their catalogue until I found one that fit the OD of the carb.

It took awhile but it was the only way to get one that I was sure was going to fit.

    I eventually found a uni-pod style filter.

    James, thanks for the link.

I will contact him and see what he has for the vacuum tank on my Rickenbacker.

in reply to: adjustable fuel pressure regulator #406928

My problem with the vacuum tank on my Rickenbacker was finding the correct parts to even attempt to make it work properly.

Easier to look for parts these days with the internet but also harder to find said parts because of scarcity.

in reply to: 1933 836 Coupe ex Dee Howard on the block #406918

David, I agree with your comments, the car has gorgeous lines and presents itself well.

The color just needs a little ‘adjustment’ is all.

    Good luck with the sale.

They are a steal at the price you’re asking.

    in reply to: 1934 Pierce-Arrow photo #406908

Car sustained damage some time between when the two photos were taken.

No damage in the first photo.

in reply to: adjustable fuel pressure regulator #406844

I have used the Mr Gasket regulators in a pinch but their quality is lacking.

There are some expensive options out there (as far as fuel regulators go) but this one seems to be well made and it pretty consistent.

The vacuum tank on my Rickenbacker never worked properly so an electric pump has been used for decades on the car so I’ve gone through a few different fuel regulators over the years.

in reply to: 32 Model 54 Radiator Removal #406881

The car looks like it’s in great shape.

Engine compartment looks nice and clean.

Good luck with your freewheeling and reverse issue.

Sounds like stuff just hasn’t been moved around and used in so long that things have become stuck.

in reply to: The OPTIMA DEAL IS ON – 15 APRIL to 15 MAY! #406861

Now your battery is more well traveled than your Pierce. :)

Good to hear you got the battery.

FYI – I finally pulled the trigger and sent Optima Jim a email late yesterday even though I don’t really need one at the moment.

Got an email back early this morning, used the code today and it worked!

My extra 6v Optima is on its way.

Looks like I will be using 2 Optima batteries in my battery box as others have done or I will give it to my cousin that is restoring a ’24 Chrysler roadster.

Thanks again, Peter, for putting this deal together.

I get an error when following the link.

Anyone else not able to get there?
