Hi Jim, we just bought another touring car. While talking to some of the Pebble Beach judges they commented…………..PLEASE don’t paint it maroon or silver………..we sure are tired of those colors!. While I paint my cars any color I please, and anyone who has seen my 36 1602 club sedan will agree…….. there are a lot of cars out there in that color. While I think most 29’s should be conservative and tasteful, many people do the earth tones and they look very good. Most importantly, paint it the way you like it. Good luck, Ed.
Not for a Pierce Arrow.
I may be out that way in April. I can get it back to Mass. I often go to Florida in Jan and Feb. If your not in a hurry……… Ed
1932 factory top sample.
My hot hrad lighter is spoken for…..thanks, Ed
Pierce Arrow offered top material in many different colors and weaves. The V-12 cars usually had fancier upholstery than the eights. I have factory top samples in my collection, in all different shades and colors. The texture was also different from one sample to the other. Also I have some factory photos showing different color tops with offset trim colors on the boot. I have in hand as I type a darker brown top sample.(Darker than Burbank).
The unit I have is NOS and came with some parts I purchased a few years ago. I know nothing about it. If you want it I would like 40.00 for it plus shipping.
Front side.
Ihave this new old stock headpiece available for anyone who needs it.
And it should not use a packing for a seal on the shaft. Be sure they use a modern rubber lip seal. I still think 350 is low. Bearings, shaft, seal, sandblasting, crack check, machine for bearings and seal, fill pits in pump, prime, paint, new hardware, chrome for the cup, ect…..money doesn’t go far today.
I use Rhode Island. Great stuff, never a problem.
It should be rebuilt with NEW bearings……it had bushings from the factory. Also, a new stainless shaft should be made. It needs to be checked for cracks, as they often don’t appear untill after the rebuild. Also, the 29 pumps are known to have end play as well as rusting through problems. 350.00 sounds light to do a pump right today. End play should be set up before the shaft is finished. Ed.
Use caution……that carb has blisters on the surface. It’s probably only parts. Ed
Thanks for giving the members a heads up.
This exhaust is just one example of why today’s cars while restored don’t run, drive, or perform like they did when new. Add in modern gas, incorrect ignition parts and set up, carburetors not jetted for E10 gas, fuel systems modified and restricted, and the list goes on and on. Fact is most people have never driven a car that runs and performs as a factory new delivered vehicle. The great cars of the 30’s run like the wind when you spend the TIME and money to make them right. Just go for a ride in Bob Dluhy’s 31 eight touring. It’s the best running and driving eight on the planet……….. and I have driven well more than 50 Pierce eight’s
I agree with Greg, it should be a conveyor belt type of material. I also have seen a hard type of large and thick hood lace material that is woven. We make our own from heavy rubber belt of diffrent thickness, and compress them over one year ahead of time to get them to set. My 35 was done this way 25 years ago and it is still in perfect alignment.
Jim, there were diffrent materials used between the frame and body sill, and what was used on the wood and sheet metal. What are you trying to shim?
I think the term is……. virum scientia.
Tony….you must put a call into John. I think he only has the 36 to 38 stuff in inventory right now. My best, Ed
John Cislak had about a hundred mufflers made. He still has some left for the 36 to 38 cars. I think he is going to do the earlier car in the near future. Give him a call. I am shure he will post an ad whan he is going to make them.
Richard, could you send me some better photos of your factory system. We have been collecting patterns for many years as we like to make our exhaust just as it was new. Thanks, Ed See photo below for a 36-38 set of correct pipes. They are huge, and flow better than anything else made today.
