N C is taking about 8 months right now to knock out a frame. I placed my order June 1st and it will be done late Feb. Ed Minnie

in reply to: 1934 V12 Chassis on Ebay #395230

I do not remember what number I used when I looked at it, but as I remember I thought it was a 34. Someone bid on it at the opening price, sure is a fair amount of money for lawn sculpture. Ed

Hi all, I have personally inspected this chassis, and it literally had a tree growing up through it about 8 inches in diameter. It is freeze cracked in the engine/blocks and transmission is rusted solid and does not shift. There is green moss on the transmission cover if you look close. The carbs are incorrect Zenith off a 50’s Seagrave, and most of the engine components are junk. Almost nothing on it is good. We made an offer on it of under 1000 dollars so we could use it in our V-12 museum display engine we are currently doing. (The project is a gratis donation project to display a complete and correct 12 engine and trans and power brake if possible.) If anyone buys it and does not want the rusty left overs, we sure would like them for the display engine. It’s sad it was left out for junk. If you have any questions on it call me as I took some detailed photos. Ed

in reply to: Rear end ratio #395224

Is your Stromberg a UU-2 with good castings, often people put carbs on from a Stude or Nash and are very under carburated. Ed

in reply to: Rear end ratio #395223

Something is not right, unless you have a rear gear for San Francisco that’s 6.5 to 1 you have some problem. That car will run 65 all day long with only a slight push of the engine. Check to see you are getting full throttle opening and good spark advance on the curve.

in reply to: Tony Zappone is recovering nicely #395220

I was down south last week and had a brief visit with Tony the day he got out of the ICU. He looked well considering all he had been through, and sounds much better on the phone yesterday. Claire was holding up well also. Ed

I remember when I looked at the car with my father in the 80’s. My father offered 250 but didn’t know they were asking 475 at the time. May have been the other one as they owned two at the time. Ed

in reply to: Need engine for model 41 #395214

The series 41 and 42 are a one year only engine, as are almost all the body and chassis parts. Trans is a 3 or 4 speed. Model 43 stuff is all diffrent and will not fit. Did you buy the blue 31 for sale?

in reply to: Paint colors for 1930 B model Club Sedan #395105

As you can see I paint my cars to any color that I like. Paint chips from the 30’s are lead based and don’t hold up well over time. I would use any shade that you like, it may help to look at the large Pierce factory sales catalog from 29 to 31 for insperation. I use them often as a guide for good taste. Ed

“Burnt orange moon” is a correct wheel color to match the beige / brown body colors, used by Packard, Cadillac, and Pierce in 30 and 31. Ed

in reply to: Transmission – differential – steering box lubrication #395100

The Ross steering box DOES NOT USE GREASE! It should have oil in it. The same goes for the Gemmer box also. Ed

in reply to: Fan Bearings–NEED HELP!–My vehicle is grounded! #395072

Bearings and races are available over the counter. The failure is probably lack of oil. There are 5 different fan/hub/pulley set ups used on the 29 to 38 cars. While they are similar they do not interchange. Should be an easy fix to repair, or replace with modern bearings and a modern seal. I converted my V-12 20 years ago and 15,000 miles with no problems yet. Ed

in reply to: 1934 P-A Car Weight #395060

PS. Yes, the car was so damaged it was totaled and parted out. A sad end to a very nice California Pierce.

A word to the wise if you ever have to get a tow while in your car. A member lost his car two years ago when the tow truck driver of a roll back did not properly secure the 1936 1601 sedan. It fell off and rolled down a mountain road till it stopped when it hit a house. It wasn’t pretty. Be careful when trailering or towing. Ed

in reply to: Carberator Adjustment for a 1930 Model A #395052

Bill, Could you post the info you have? Or email it? The only info I have is in a huge book with hundreds of pages, and I must hunt around to find what I am looking for. If the carb was changed out often the main jets were also, but the rest of the parts are often not. Remember a UU2 and UUR2 carb fit on engines from 240 CID to 560 CID and most of the internals if they are incorrect will cause idle, acceleration, and mixture problems. We often see the smaller carbs installed on a Pierce with all the jets and air bleeds opened up in an effort to try and make them run right. They usually don’t. A word of caution to all … don’t run lean and burn a valve or piston! If you must set the carb up yourself use a 5 gas analyzer to check for correct combustion, or be sure to run the car on the rich side to prevent damage. Remember the stuff we pay 3.50 a gallon for is not gas as it was in the old days! Ed
