Mass plate number one was issued to a gentelman in Elliot Mass, and the family still has it on one of their modern cars. My guess is it’s now fourth or fifth generation.

in reply to: Time to sell 1245? #407786

in reply to: WHAT COLOR SHOULD THE PIN STRIPES BE? #407785

Depends upon the top color, as well as the leather. Without a photo of the car in the sun to show its true colors it’s hard to say. Lots of other important choices……stiching on the top, offset piping color, side mount covers- yes or no, ect.

David Coco can comment better on how Pierce did the springs and uhpolstery.Yes, open similar to the rumble seat. Which car did you buy? The black one at Hershey from several years ago? Great car. If you need anything else give me a ring. Ed

Call Cislak, he has one on the shelf……..both items.

in reply to: 33 1242 Convertible Coupe Front Seat Wood #407747

Thats not correct. Should be a ash frame and open in the center to see the spring frame and individual bags for the springs…………from first hand knowledge on three Pierce 12 open cars from 1932,1935,and 1936.

in reply to: 6 Volt Optima Batteries Not Available #407712

Peter…..I most often check in on my phone, and sometimes I miss the postings…….getting blind in my old age!

in reply to: 1931: Shutters Or Thermostat? #407711

Greg is correct, running the engine too cool advances engine wear by 200 to 300 percent…….. but todays modern oils, valves, pistons, and rings are much better than fifty to ninety years ago. The block on a Pierce is very good material and doesn’t offer any issues. Running the thermostat as Greg does is fine, EXCEPT today the cheap thermostats available are just terrible quality so be sure and buy one from a speed shop that sells ones made in the USA. They run about 25 bucks, and are worth every penny.

in reply to: low voltage at ignition switch, current limiter, or?? #407710

Dave……install a battery cut off switch…….and don’t leave the key on!

in reply to: Sneak peek at the 29 DC phaeton #407709

Yes……it is. I passed on the car a long time before it was ever on the show. Kumor had it after the show.

in reply to: 6 Volt Optima Batteries Not Available #407700

A report from Optima says they will have the batteries back in production in 60 days or less. Just a manufacturing bottleneck, they are going to be available, you just have to wait a little bit. This is from the company directly. Ed

in reply to: 1931: Shutters Or Thermostat? #407698

All the parts to make your system work correctly are available and easy to install. Why not keep the car correct? If it is all apart and has a new core it only makes sense to finish the job correctly. The parts are not that expensive and bellows and linkage are available as well as some other parts. Cislak advertised them in the last six months. Give him a call if you need help. Enjoy your car! Ed

in reply to: low voltage at ignition switch, current limiter, or?? #407676

A bad battery will often read OK with today’s modern testers and chargers. If a car runs well when parked and won’t start it’s highly unlikely that a cool or condenser went pad while sitting. Corrosion, almost anywhere in the system is a possibility as is a bad battery. Keep it simple…….you will find it.

in reply to: 1932, Pierce-Arrow 54, Coupe, SOLD at Auction #407608

Yes, I am familiar with it. Had several friends look at it at the auction, and a good friend of mine was the under bidder. 1932 Pierce cars are my favorite drivers. I saw you car about fifteen years ago. The green one was mine, the blue one is yours, the maroon one was last in New Mexico, the tan one was recently for sale in Southern California, and the last one is in primer, but was dark blue and resid in Hawaii. My car came with factory chrome wire wheels, which I stripped and painted. Otherwise all the cars are basically as delivered and correct.

in reply to: *Updated* Stolen 1923 Series 33 Touring Car #407607

Sounds like a car was sold by someone who didn’t own it. Happens more often than you would think. Hopefully the person won’t be out of any money.

in reply to: Bringing one home from Canada #407606

Drive it or haul it over the border. It’s made in the USA so no taxes are due…….unless the new NAFTA issues with Canada have changed it. I brought a car over ten years ago……they asked, I answered, no problem or request for paperwork.

    in reply to: A crazy idea… #407590

I have the lap robe from that car, bought from Marge Brunn, Herman’s daughter back about twenty years ago. I have considered going to see the museum, but until the current situation changes, I wouldn’t even consider it.
