Photos from the tent. Enjot, Ed
I agree with Greg, but would add that be sure your trailer has 16 inch wheels, and extra large brakes. If you want to carry extra stuff add a few feet… but be aware it gets long and hard to handle real fast over 24 feet. Ed
Also, check to see if your idle air adjustment has been modified. Go to this ebay auction number – 110644101070 – be sure to look at all the photos, and you can see what you should have for a stock set up. Remember also that many Pierce cars have had other UU-2 carbs installed, thus ALL of the jets and venturies as well as the accelerator pump are incorrect.
Check the idle discharge tubes, they often plug up causing the car to idle on the main jet circuit, which will cause it to have a poor idle and a rich condition down low. Also, you must remove ALL THE BRASS PLUGS AND JETS to get the carb cleaned out. Very often they are very difficult to remove. If all the brass cannot be removed, you cannot clean all of the passages. I have seen “rebuilt” carbs with several brass plugs that have not been removed, and thus they suffer idle circuit problems. Good luck, Ed. PS be carefull with the UU-2 as they can crack and fail due to poor pot metal.
I purchased my copy at the PAS tent in Hershey this week. I just ran the first cd and it was great. This cd collection should be in every members library. Thanks Marc and Chris.
I didn’t get a chance to get photos, and I am on the way out the door to Hershey. I will post them when I get back. Hope to see you there, Ed
I ran the external oil line on my v-12 and I can tell you ANY Pierce needs the extra lubrication. If you run the oil line you must install a modern seal, or the cover WILL LEAK lots of oil. John Cislak makes covers with the conversion done on the seal, and oil lines, fittings, and a correct meetered oil dump. You must not put too much oil on the chain or you can get lifter tick at idle. Pierce V-12 pressure is fine on a good engine, my car holds 20 lbs at idle on a hot day no problem. Factory timing chain lubrication was done as a bypass or dump from the end of the cam. Be sure also you have a correct oil slinger and shield installed as they are often missing. If you need photos, just ask and I will post them. If you didn’t make new cam bearings you are going to have trouble. Ed
Hi Jim, John Cislak should have a good used primer. Give him a call. Ed
Another.
Peter, how is your engine making out after the meet? Ed
Another photo from the meet.
John and I also had a great time. It was a 840 mile haul to take the car to Kalamazoo, and well worth every mile. Enclosed is a photo of Keith Tammerine, a long time PAS member who also has a 1932 series 54 coupe. Keith purchased his car 54 years ago while in high school. He made the trip from HAWAII! Thanks to Dave and Diana for another great meet! Ed
The car appeared to be a 29 to 31 chassis, very rusty and abused, with what looked like a very poor attempt to bild a tube type body structure over it. It looked like it was a high school shop product at best. My guess is that there were MAYBE 500.00 of parts you could pull off the thing. It’s so poor it will probably end up in the scrap yard. Ed
The numbers got crossed, both cars, the limo and silver arrow were owned by Wally Rank. The gentelman is looking for the silver arrow now. Ed
Thanks, Ralph and Paul. I just thought the photos were interesting, and after Paul’s talk on them, I think it’s time I find an interesting Pierce with a crank. ( And no motor.) Ed
Hi Paul, I will try and email it to you, I’ll do my best, not sure if it will work. Ed
If you need a manifold for your Pierce eight call Dave Murray as he is getting ready to make another run of them soon. They are very nice, as I have one of the last batch he made on my shelf as a spare. Ed
Another short note, he has made and delivered a 1930 manifold, it did not fit the car, and long story short, it’s now in John Cislak’s hands. It looks great, it just does not fit the car. Ed.
