I will look at mine tomorrow.
I was going to wait until the batteries were offered next year to mention this, but I did find a very simple solution to having two Optima batteries in parallel to give you a little more cranking power.
Lawson Products (www.lawsonproducts.com) offers 2/0 gauge battery cables which have a regular terminal on one end, and a terminal with a standard battery post on top of the terminal on the other end. This allows you to hook up your batteries in parallel and connect them right to the cables in your car.
Part Nos. are 84816 for positive and 84817 for negative. Cost is about $25. each
Loki can do the security.
Thanks Peter, I have already ordered it from Amazon. The advertising blurb clearly indicates that is it silicon free.

Oooh you’ve got the Pierce Arrow disease now. You can tell how bad a case you have by the number of times each day you search eBay for Pierce parts….
Seriously, glad to have had you along on the trip, and you did a great job of taking a car that would have been written off as scrap and really making something out of it.
While we’re on the subject of tops, is there a preferred preservative to use on the tops? The roof on my car is just fine, but I’d like to keep it that way. Any ideas on a preservative?
Another thought–I bought my Pierce through a dealer and the seller was a PAS member. The reason the seller used a dealer is that he wanted to take the proceeds from the sale of the car and use them to endow a scholarship at his alma mater. He had to use an intermediate so that the funds would not be taxable for him. Could the PAS set up some kind of intermediate account like this so that the high dealer commission could be saved and added to the endowment for any future transactions like this?
Scott, I just retired as a Supervisor with US Customs after 35 years. You should have no problem clearing the car. I suggest, if possible, you clear the car at Buffalo, at the Peace Bridge Crossing, as they are quite familiar with Pierce Arrows. Your car is a US car, so the vehicle enters as “US Goods Returned” and should be exempt from duties. There may be some minor entry fees involved. I suggest you make entry for the car rather than just driving it across the border as many DMVs will balk at issuing a new title on a car brought in from overseas unless the application for title is accompanied by a CBP 7501, formal entry, which shows that the vehicle was legally entered into the US. Go to the CBP.gov website, and you should be able to download the DOT and EPA forms (your car should be exempt from both due to date of manufacture) and read the two publications, one on importing a car (most of it relates to more modern cars) and Importing into the United States, which gives you a good overview of how an import entry is made.
I can appreciate your desire to see this car, but I would strongly suggest that you postpone your travel plans until the political situation changes. You would very likely wind up as a pawn in an international dispute.
Yes, this year’s Gathering was really a great time. Again, kudos to Dave and Diana for all of their hard work. While we were running around having fun, they were taking care of all of the details behind the scenes. With all of their running around, they were always on hand to make sure everything was going well for everyone else! Great job on your 15th Anniversary! Also got to meet a lot of new people, and become better acquainted with others. Now when I go to a PAS event, it’s just like picking up a conversation with a friend you haven’t seen for a few days.
There are escrow services you can also use, again, I believe, listed in Hemmings and similar magazines.
How about having one of the many car inspection services listed in Hemmings go and take a look at the car?
The promoters announced today that the show is cancelled for this year, but they remain committed to bringing the show to the Chicago area for 2019. They state that anyone who bought tickets will receive a refund.
Here’s a picture of Henry Paulman, who, before Pierce took over the dealership as a company branch in 1924, was the long time Pierce dealer here. Bill Morris checked out and found out while the main dealership on South Michigan Avenue is gone, the service department on Armour Avenue, and the Evanston and Oak Park branch buildings still exist.
I heard an interesting story about Henry Paulman and Chicago merchant Marshall Field. Don’t know if it’s really true, but a great story anyway…
It seems that Marshall Field was sought as a customer by all new car salesmen. Field at that time was the richest man in America, and a sale to him would be a real feather in the cap for any salesman. It seems that Field interviewed each salesman who came to visit him, and while speaking to them, said, “I understand from the information you have given me that your vehicle is the best on the market, but out of curiosity, what would you say is the second best?” The second best was always Pierce, regardless of what the sales man was pushing. So Field bought a Pierce!
Anyone know if there was a Pierce dealer in Tucson, AZ in 1933? Also trying to run down the history of my car.
Arvydas,
The direct bank withdrawal used in Europe is not used in the United States. Normally, a bank would issue a “debit card,” similar to a Visa or Master Card that is processed just like a credit card. Normally, for a purchase from the PAS Company Store, you could use a major credit card, or a debit card issued by a credit card company. The debit card deducts the funds from your bank account, but again, is processed like a credit card. Contact Jim or Barbara Payne if you need futher assistance. They might be a little slow in replying as Barbara’s 100 year old father, who came along on the National meeting a few weeks ago, took ill while travelling and was in the hospital.
Greg, would I follow the same procedure with my wooden artillery wheels? Putting the PVC tape on the metal rim?
Well Dave Stevens, I will be at Gilmore one way or another. Bill Morris is coming over over the weekend to give my car a shakedown drive and we’ll see what happens. The thread on new tires is very timely as I will probably drive the Pierce to Gilmore if I wind up taking it. We’ll find out what the little pops in the exhaust are all about.
I will be putting new tires on my car soon, and it has slightly larger tires than yours, 7.50 x 17. I have been told by numerous club members to put 16 or 16.5 inch radial truck tubes in the tires, for exactly the same reason, folds getting trapped.
