Well on my 1930 the oil line goes through a bulkhead fitting in the firewall, I don’t have a startex, amp gauge comes up in the flexible conduit left of the clutch pedal along with the generator relay, vac line has a separate line at the right side of the firewall.

I had no rubber plug in the firewall at all and I can only find 3 things that go through there, 2 coil wires and the temp sensor. Is there something else before I finish the wiring harness? Jim

    Bill,

Since you are doing yours now, what are the 6 holes and the slot for? 2 holes for the coil primary wires I know, is the slot for the temp gauge bulb to go through? Maybe it’s obvious but I don’t see the other wires on mine. Jim

    Ken,

I don’t remember the cost of the repair exactly but it didn’t matter in that case since the head and cyl are one piece and not available, there are only about 10 cars that exist. Between the repairs and the shipping both ways from Tucson I think it was just under $1000. Jim L

I’ve used Lock-N-Stitch and was very happy with the results. Both cylinders in the EX valve port on a 1906 Tourist. Jim

    Bill,

How much did you have to thin your Performix Plasti Dip to spray it? Mine is pretty thick, but does leave a nice coat with one dip. Jim

    Bill,

Does that piece wrap around the corner completely or just cover the face and the bottom? Jim

    David,

If you ever make contact with them, will you post the results on the board? Jim

in reply to: Steering wheel hub #403079

    Jak and Greg,

If it’s an oiling hole I guess I don’t need it, right or wrong I made a new upper bushing from Teflon stock I have. Thanks for the answer to the puzzle. Jim

in reply to: Steering wheel hub #403062

    Bill,

No the column is solid. The hole is just below the center hub with the keyslot in it. It seems there must be a purpose because the repro and OE are in the same spot, unless the repro just copied and didn’t ask questions.

When the hub is tightened down I don’t think the bottom of the hub contacts the top of the column, maybe the hole is to check the clearence.

    Bill,

My mistake the hole isn’t threaded it just had a burr in it. The hole is .128″ a #30 drill. Jim”

    Bill,

I’ll get one in the morning. In the extra parts that came with the car was the cast brass replacement, and both the OE and the brass one have the threaded hole. Jim

    Dave,

If you were asking me, I can go out and check mine in the morning. I think I decided on the thickness by seeing how the hood line looked from the cowl to the radiator shell. Jim L

    Jim,

My ’30 had rubber pads under the radiator, whether it is correct or not I don’t know I replaced them with new ones. Now you have a project. Jim

    Peter,

Instead of a lantern battery I use the trickle charger set on 6v and 2amps, then if you check a 12v car set it to 12v and 4amps. Disconnect the batt first of course. Jim

in reply to: timing chain help wanted. #402121

    Bob,

I took my old gears and chain to an indstrial bearing house and they looked in their catalogs and found the chain and sprockets. When they called the company, the sprockets came either with just a center hole or I could have sent my old sprockets to the company and they would have machined them to match. If I can find a source here in Tucson any big town should be able to get them. Jim

That’s almost the same as the L-29 Cord. Is that a triple laced wheel? Jim

I don’t think it’s this site that is the problem, it’s among the few I don’t have a problem with since i went to 10. Most of mine is the “MSN has stopped working”” window then it closes. Several times a day.”

in reply to: 1929 Timing Chain and Gears #400935

    Bob,

I went to a bearing supply house here in Tucson with my old parts and they looked up the parts by the specs since they didn’t have a listing, and I got the chain and both sprockets. They hd to order the parts. I had to machine the sprockets since they came with just the center hole. I didn’t want to send the parts to them to machine. If I was doing it again I would have them machine the sprockets. The rating on that chain is something like 1500 HP. Might be a little over kill. Jim

    Bob,

I am having a guy that works on old radios as a hobby work on it, since I couldn’t find anybody that would consider touching it.

    I’ll pass along the info.

I know he said to replace all the capacitors because the paper wrapped ones were showing some leakage. The speaker need reconed. If it doesn’t produce Carbon Monoxide I don’t understand it, and then sometimes I don’t. Thanks. Jim
