I also want to thank all the organizers for the great job they did. We had a wonderful time. Everyone could not have been friendlier. Only my second annual meet but it just keeps getting better.

Congratulation. I have similar recent experiences with my first Pierce (different model and year) and I am also much appreciative of all the wonderful PAS members for their assistance and openness.

P.S. I second the suggestion to post a photo of your car.

    Dear Bill,

So sorry to hear about your car troubles. I am sure you are greatly disappointed. It was a great pleasure meeting you in Buffalo last year and talking with you on the phone. I appreciate all the help you gave me while I was sorting out my Pierce. I was looking forward to seeing you at the meet. I hope our paths cross again soon.

    Regards,

LUBRIPLATE No. 115 was recommended to me. It is a NGLI grade #4 (No I am not a lubrication engineer, but I can read the spec sheet)

Bob, thanks for the response. So, the lesson to learn is “simply”” to make sure the carb is properly set up prior to instillation and it is properly installed. Nothing mystical here.

    Ed,

Not to get to far off track, but what was so different about the “identical” carb that caused such severe engine damage? More to the point of this discussion, how does one ever replace the carb even if it is an “identical” unit safely?

in reply to: SOURCE & PART NUMBERS FOR ROTOR & POINTS #401798

    Steven,

I am surprised about the points. I just bought them last year. You may want to try another NAPA store, they may still have one in stock. As for the points gap, the owner’s manual recommends 0.018 of an inch.

    Good luck,

I had some electrical gremlins and went through my entire engine electrical system last year with the helpful suggestions of many PAS members. For points, you can get them from NAPA (parts numbers CS779A and CS778A. The CS778A needs to be modified by cutting off the post which is easy to do). They have been working great for over 1000 miles.

    Greg,

Thanks for that explanation. I wondered why when I used coolant it foamed and pushed out the overflow tube, but when I used pure water (with a rust inhibitor), I saw no foaming, and the water level remained constant throughout the driving season.

    Dear Bob,

Welcome. Wonderful looking car. I am just up the road from you. I hope to see you and your car in person in the near future. As a recent member, I cannot say enough about how helpful and welcoming this group is.

    Greg,

From personal experience I want to say your tutorials have been very much appreciated. You and a few other “Professorial”” members have been fantastic at helping me better understand how these car work and made it easy for me to jump right into working on my car. I was “”warned”” how great this group of enthusiasts was. You and the others have exceeded my expectations.

It should come back to the US, it is already “flying” the American colors (red, white, and blue)! ;)

Be careful about very ‘old’ wines for sale. Many are fake. Anyone can refill an old bottle. This book is one of the best stories on this topic.

David, mine looks like Bob’s. What do you mean by “on the inside of the main door””?”
